Kaolack Summer School for Girls

Girls often stay home to provide family services such as fetching water, preparing meals, and caring for the ill. This leads to gaps in their education. Thus, among the girls with birth certificates, only a few have succeeded on the National Secondary School Entrance Exam–in a typical year, only 14% of girls taking the exam pass.

The Kaolack Summer School for Girls(KSSG)–developed and funded by ELEVEate–is a summer school dedicated to preparing girls for the National Secondary School Entrance Exam. Girls already enrolled in secondary school may also attend KSSG to build their skills. All girls in the Kaolack region in grades 6-12 can attend KSSG at no charge. In a typical summer about 300 girls study at KSSG. Among the girls who take the National Secondary School Entrance Exam shortly after attending KSSG success on the exam ranges from 84-100%.
